Marina was without power today but thankfully, I have put in an inverter as part of my propulsion power system upgrade. That made it possible to complete this weekend’s project.
Upholstered the final saloon seat and paused to take in the new look. Love how cosy this. material looks, especially in the warm evening light.
Don’t want to run my usual electric heater off the inverter so got the fireplace going. This is definitely turning into a super cozy happy place!
With sewing machine out for the floor runner, took time to finalize the cover for the fireplace vent. I made it a few years ago but ended up with it being too small and useless. The teak base under the vent got pretty weathered so I finally added a wedge into my first take and made that cover fit. Not my best work but does the job.
Finally added grout to tile. Love the finished look!
Today is the day to test the fireplace for the first time. Love it!
With help from my friend Viktar, made new teak trim and bulkhead to box in the tile area, lined it with HDPE, and set tile on mortar.

With 2 sets of tiles ready, today was the day to dry fit the entire assembly and figure out the last row. Ended up with 5 custom pieces that will be done next week. Will likely rotate the tiles in the final layout (and need to figure out which one goes where). Teak border is also just FPO right now, needs more work to have smooth edges and better bottom shape.
Picked up the second set of tiles today: an octopus, jellyfish, whale tail, anchor, crab, Golden Gate Bridge, and the Big Dipper pointing to Polaris. Looking pretty good.
The first set of custom tiles is ready: a lighthouse, seashell, starfish, marlin, mermaid reading a book, seagulls, and a horse running through water.
With help from my friend Viktra, the fireplace was wired to DC so that blower works and the propane hose was connected. Can’t wait to test it out.
