Friends to the rescue

Friends joined today and we made amazing progress: the beam was removed, we removed the shaft and prop, we took off all the remaining deck hardware (including cockpit drains that had to be cut), and we took out the diesel fuel tank.

Despite the “E”  sensor reading, the fuel tank was actually almost full (and really heavy) so we made a lot of mess and ended up filling four 5gal jerry cans with fuel. Luckily, we found someone in the marina that wanted it and took it all.  Alas, all the clothes, work gloves, and the boat now reek of diesel – will take a few days to air out.

While we were working, the painters started rebuilding the enclosure that was blown off by the storm. The new construction is much more sturdy.
