One of the biggest annoyances on a 40+ year old boat is the rudder wobble caused by worn shaft. Per section 8.4 of the West Systems fiberglass repair manual, the best way to deal with it is to fill it with epoxy/silica/graphite powder mix to create a new tight-fitting custom “bearing”. That’s exactly what we did. Despite generously applied wax, after the epoxy set it was close to impossible to move the rudder. Will need to spend some time working it in – or just sail a straight course all the time.
